CASTAWAY - an open-ended, LOST-inspired RPG setting

CASTAWAY
Hi hi! So, I've been kind of itching to play a "desert island" setting for a while now, and what better way to do this than to base it off of LOST? I used to play this on AOL chats, but now that AOL RP has died out, it's hard finding a place to play it (casually, at least). So, I'm reviving it here!

I was a moderator for this SL (storyline) when it was on AOL a few years ago, so I already have a pre-written plot and such at hand. The only thing that you have to do is make up a character, or bring in one that you already play. CASTAWAY is kind of an AU (alternate universe) playground where you can bring in favorite characters and play them in a deserted island setting .. You don't have to, though. New characters are totally welcome. :)

Anyway, here are a few notes, and the plot at large. I'll be posting an in-character thread soon to kick things off. Happy playing, and post questions/suggestions here if you want!

THE PLOT
Castaway is a modern, realistic storyline loosely based off of the events depicted in ABC's award-winning drama, LOST, tracking the events of the passengers from Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 following the aircraft's fateful stray from course between Melbourne, Australia and Los Angeles, California, and its imminent mid-air destruction. Stranded on an unknown island somewhere in the South Pacific, they have nothing but each other and the remnants of the broken plane to carry them through the tragedy and loss. But the island that embraced them seems to have far more beneath its pretty sands and vibrant jungles than anyone could possibly imagine, from its peculiar residents to its paranormal qualities. Unbeknownst to the lost passengers, what seems to be a piece of untouched natural paradise was once the home of a colony of scientists, now an inexplicable ghost town of labs and forgotten research.

The story begins on the day of the plane's mid-air division and crash landing on the nameless island, set as July 15, 2012. While much of the plane's rear half fell on and around the beach, the front is estimated to have landed somewhere further inland amidst the thick jungle. The island's natural habitat reigns untamed with a variety of game and predators, but there is a distinct supernatural sense about the place -- something there disables electronics and GPS systems, spins compasses and glitches cell phones. Something there, maybe in the air or in the water, it makes you see things, hear things. Yet the descent into madness is never a boring one.

Welcome to Castaway.

NOTES
This island is weird. Seriously. If you've seen LOST, you'll know what I'm talking about, but .. wounds heal at miraculous rates. People see things they shouldn't see, like ghosts, random animals (like polar bears, in the jungle .. wtf!), and the like. There are abandoned living spaces, laboratories, and other things that don't belong on a supposedly desert island. It's a crazy ride, and we're all in it. Use your imaginations, and go wild! We're all responsible for the story here. :)

Magic is cheating. Okay, not really, but if we want this to stay crazy and ridiculous, let's not wave our magic wands to fix everything and then have the story be over. I'm not opposed to characters having superpowers or knowing magic, but keep it in the down-low. In fact, if you need to, let's pretend that the island has a strange effect on powers/magic, too. It'll make for some fun chaos. XD

Alrighty, that's all I got! See you on the island. ;)
